I don't know if this is the right forum but I just got my hands on a single shot Winchester 37A 12ga. and I'm wondering if anyone could tell me some info on it. It also has Macleods 60th stamped on it.
When they were made, what it's worth, crap like that.

They were made through the 70's. Price can range from $80 - maybe $200, depending on the condition and what one is willing to pay for them. Most you'll see on here are in the $120-$160 range..usually shipping included. Great single shot in my opinion. The plastic piece that holds the forend on sometimes breaks, kinda common, but not with all. Basically a "deluxe" version of the winchester/cooey 840 and/or winchester 370. I personally buy them up when I come across them, only if in very good++ to Excellent/ as new condition. Something about the older singles that I like, so I collect them. Cheap gun, but for the most part, built to last if looked after....like just about anything.

My $0.02

If you haven't already tried shooting yours, and it has the stock hard buttplate with no padding, be advised it kicks like an angry mule so pad up your shoulder accordingly.

I used one I picked up at an auction for trap shooting one time only before I skidded it for something less ignorant. Well made, just not my cup of tea.

That's the first thing I thought when I held this thing up to my shoulder (not fired yet). It feels really light and the buttplate is rock solid. I'm expecting it to knock my small ass down!

I inherited one of these shotguns when I was 12. The recoil lets you know that it's there, I would recommend a recoil pad. It's a nice gun, and I like the fat fore stock. My problem with mine is that the fore stock keeps falling off when I shoot it. Kind of a pain!

As far as I know Cooey made shotguns for McLeods under the Hiawatha name. These as far as I know were Model 84 shotguns. The Model 84 was the first version which later became the Model37A.

Since your shotgun is a Model 37A it would appear that Winchester/Cooey also manufactured Model 37A shotguns for McLoads as well as the earlier Model 84.There is so much that is unknown about the manufacture of Cooey shotguns that it is sometimes hard to figure out just what took place durning its years of manufacture.

The McLeods 60 th could be a special purchase to honour 60 years of McLeods being in business.

I had a 37A sold it and really regret doing this. I enjoyed this shot gun. The only reason I got rid of it was I also had a model 37 semi hammerless as well. I like that one better so I kept it. However the detail was much nicer on the 37A.
