Hi Everybody,

I have searched both internet and forums on this question, Winchester vs. Marlin.

I'm looking for a short, 44Mag rifle. The winchester Model 94 trapper has an overall length of 34-1/4", the Marlin model 1894C in 44mag has an overall length of 36". During my search here I have found that the Winchester may have some issues with wear, but was that for new rifles or the older 70's rifles? Any advice would be appriciated.

Thank you,

I have a .45 Colt Win 94 and Marlin in .357. I have yet to have an issue with either rifle other than the occassional jam in the winny when shooting really fast in cowboy matches(most likely operator error - short stroking). I have seen shell carriers (elevators) break on 3 or 4 winchester .44's over the years (both recent production and older ones). My recommendation would be to go with the Marlin.

Unless you're really stuck on the look of the Winchester, I would pick the Marlin, more solid, accurate, easy to dissemble and clean from the breach.
