Hey yall, so up near my cottage the local canadian tire usually has bulk packs of federal 525. So everytime I go up ill usually buy a box to restock, however this time they were out of stock of the bulk packs and only had the 555 winchester packs, so I thought what the hell why not?

My question is what are your experiences with winchester 555 packs? I don't care much for accuracy as itll be a plinking round, im more concerned for the ammunition actually working. Ill be shooting it out of a Marlin 60 to start, if it doesn't work out there I have a savage mkii that eats up winchester wildcat no problem.

I've shot about 20 bricks of the Win555's thru my semi HG's and bolts/pumps. Very few issues with the ammo and decent for plinking IMO.
Only wish I had bought more when they were going for <$17/brick.

Good to know guys, thanks! Ive never had the chance to buy these bulk packs for less than 25 so I suppose I can't be too upset for paying around 30 taxes in.

Winchester 555 hollow points?
Wish I had a few boxes more.
Work great for gofer control.
Use them in the shooters around here and dint remember
any issues of feeding, misfires or such.

Giddieupgo........

I've found the quality has gone down some with them. I used to burn through tens of thousands of them with my 10 22s and the new ones don't work the same. Neither of my marlin 60s like them, the stainless 795 won't feed the first 4 out of the mag ( all others no prob) they work in my blued 795 and the nylon 66 pretty good. It seems the brass at the base is either thinner material or a thinner dimension.

Just bought 9 boxes off a friend of a friend for $15/box.

Have tried them in a semi rifle, bolt, and lever as well as a revolver.

Had a few fail to fire and a few fail to eject (just in the semi). Reloaded the fail to fires and most went boom.

They seem to have a lot more "loose" bullets than most .22lr rounds where you can spin the bullet in the case.

Also have 5 of the 222 round boxes I got at Lebaron for $10.36 a box.

Good enough for target and plinking. Was able to pick up a bunch of Federal champion, Remington High Velocity Golden Bullet and CCI Mini Mag at Bass Pro yesterday.

I have a Savage Mark II and find I have a lot of FT Extract issues. For a test I loaded then extracted before firing, no issue.
After firing different story. Maybe the way the rim expands not sure but most you just have to open and close the bolt to extract and some had to use a blade to pull spent cartridge out. Load in Remington Bucket of Bullets bulk, no problem.

Thanks for all the feedback guys! I still have enough the federal bulk to mess around with. Worst case ontario ill just use them in my mkii. And then actual worst case scenario ill be out 30 bucks? Not too big of a deal.

I found them to be decent, especially with their availability and price. I had maybe a dozen or so in one box that didn't cycle in my MP161K (I think it was more magazine related than ammo itself) and 1 or 2 that just would not go bang. Like others with the Savage Mark II I had problems with extraction.

But all in all I found them to be plenty good enough for the plinking I do.

Well...just tried 'em. No joy in a Cooey 64 (no surprise with HP), but fine in a 597. No issues with 3 different bolt action (Marlin 81, Cooey 60, Springfield 84C) either. 5rds loaded twice in each rifle. Fired fine in all. Extracted/ejected fine. Fed without issues in all but the 64.

My savage mkii hates both the 333 bulk and wild cat. Both have failure to eject every ~5 rounds. Had the occasional ftf too.

Remington federal and cci have never had a problem, but winchester is terrible.
