I have an older 69a without a rear sight... there is a flat area on the rear left side of the action that has mounting holes 1 1/4 inch spacing between them.... the front sight is a very normal looking ramp type, I would love to find a used Redfield or Lyman peep to fit this old girl....I currently only have an original mag in 22 short for it...my plan is to use this rifle as a training aid for some of our Canadian Rangers on my patrol that are somewhat lacking in the gift of marksmanship....if anyone can point me in the right direction to obtain a sight and mag I would be most greatful, thanks....

or google lyman or williams catalog winchester 69a sights and the listings will come up then find a place to buy one from and your good to go.

Hi wannabe - I'll put a link with a couple of pics of my 69a looking down on receiver. The flat spot is for a rail that screws into the receiver, and the actual sight has a thumb wheel screw that goes into the rail. It's a great system to be able to remove the rear peep sight for transport, etc. And yes, it's easy to put a Lyman front globe on.

That's how they were originally designed. I'm not sure if a Redfield or Lyman would screw directly into the receiver without drilling & tapping some holes, which would be a shame on a nice old 69. You could look for these specific parts, but I would guess they are hen's teeth.

Redfield made a sight to fit that at one time, you might find one used. Model 70CT for target knobs, 70CH for "hunter" adjustment knobs. I like the target knobs myself.
