Hey all - I've been asked to check the price on a Winchester 69A.

It looks like it's in pretty good condition. Apparently someone's mom did target shooting during/after/before? WW2 and this was her gun. It has a few blemishes as the photos show, but bluing and stock are overall very nice. It has a matching gun sock/fabric and leather carrier. Bore is VG.

So, after seeing the pics, what price would you say?

It would be interesting to know what rear peep sight is on it - whether or not it's a Winchester make will change what it's worth. The sling swivels look a little out of place with the front one so far forward - I doubt if they are factory. I'd say it's a $275 - $300 gun up here. More so south of the border of course.

Is it 22 long rifle or 22 S, L, & LR?
If designated long rifle only the sights could be Winchester.
I researched one for a friend on rimfirecentral and that is where I learned the difference, especially in value.

The rear sight is factory, They call that Model "Target"

The ones that had the Factory installed Lyman sight were dubbed "Match"

Value for that one is around 250.00 If you had the "Match" they command 325.00 and higher depending on condition of course.

Is the receiver grooved on top to accept scope rings? if so it is more valuable, if not less valuable. The last one of these that I bought came with the Win factory peep sight, grooved on top, and I paid $235.00, plus the stock on mine is much nice than yours is. the last non grooved model I bought went for $150.00. FS

I'm going to follow this thread with interest as I have a 69A as well.

Me too: mine is scope grooved and has Lyman peep sights. Very accurate rifle, one I'll never part with. Hell, if I had any $ to spare, I'd make an offer on your friend's rifle, Wally.

Nope - no grooving, just beauty smooth metal.

When I pulled it apart I knoticed the screw under where the trigger engages the bolt. It's a pretty large screw, looks like it adjusts the trigger tension, or pull, or weight or something... any ideas?

So I did some digging around on the american auction sites - pretty much all of them have that rear sight, so pretty sure it's original.

Plus a lot of them have really far forward sling set ups. I could see that being a function of the gun being so small though.

My 69A is not grooved. There is no scope on it. Its clearly marked "short, long and long rifle. I have 2 mags for it, one for the LR shells and one for the shorts and longs. No swivels on mine, but it has the peep sight and the plug that fills the dovetail groove on the barrel. The front sight doesn't look like any of the others I've seen on guns on the web though. I thought it was supposed to be hooded.

Heres a threah I picked up on another forum about the 69A......

Re: Winchester Model 69A

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The 69A is a later version of the Model 69 (the 69 being introduced in 1935). In 1937 the bolt was changed to #### on opening rather than on closing; at that time the Model 69 became the 69A. Over the years these guns have been offered in sporting, target and match versions. They are adult sized 22 cal. bolt guns that are magazine fed.

From 1937-41 the guns were offerd with telescopic sights (optional). After WWII the receivers were simply grooved for commercial scope mounts.

Sorry, I can't tell you where the serial number is located or if there is even a number on the gun. If your 69A is an early version, it was not required.

Going on this info I take it to mean that any 69A reciever NOT grooved would be a 1937 to 1945 model.

***Sorry for hijacking***

Nice - lots of info to go on!

Basically got it down to that it's a target or match gun - from the owners, it was bought just before ww2, so made in 1937-1941 ish.

P.S. - rick65cat - it almost looks like there's grooving there for a hood? Perhaps it's been slid off at some point?
