Hey all. I’ve been looking for some information/thoughts about this subject. I learned about the Winchester 70-150 experimental rifle(s) that were built in the late 1880s awhile back, in essence the idea was to the use the 1887 action, with barrel only rifled on the last 6 inches, to propel a beefy ol round down range.
Now, the brass is just necked down 12 gauge brass, there are a few loads floating around out there for 600 grain and 900 grain projectiles, both in black powder and smokeless form. Has anybody seen much of these? Anyone thought of building one themselves?
If anybody could give some advice or share information, I’m all ears. I want to buy a Norinco (maybe a Chiappa would be better?) 1887 and find someone to make a nice octagon 70 caliber full rifled barrel for this.
Yes it’s ridiculous, no it’s not practical, and no, you can NOT talk me out of it
the 1887 is my favourite range toy, I think an 1887 in 70-150 WCF would be jaw dropping and shoulder dislocating fun.
