I have a 1977 Winchester model 70 with the blind mag stock. Caliber is 308 Win. I measured the hole centers and comes to 7 5/8 from back of trigger gaurd bolt to front bolt. I believe it to be a long action stock. The mag well has a spacer for the shorter 308. Is there a supplier here in Canada where i can purchase the bottom metal to turn this blind mag into a hinged drop open style?

I had a push feed Model 70 in 308 Win with that hinged floor plate from factory - I had bought it new from a store circa 1976 - for whatever reason, I was looking for a replacement - sort of taken by surprise that there was two depths made - apparently after a particular year, a plastic spacer is needed to use the factory bottom metal - might not be an issue if you are inletting the stock yourself? As you might know, original was two piece - trigger guard loop was completely separate piece to the hinged floor piece - I think newer ones might have had one-piece metal?? when the Model 70 had a hinged floor plate, there was a third action screw - ahead on the trigger guard, under the floor plate when closed - you put about no torque on that one when assembling the rifle - not sure if the blind magazine rifles had that - I never owned one, until recently.

There will be almost no other gun part harder to find than Winchester bottom metal, one or two piece. I don’t believe there’s any aftermarket available and there’s usually someone in the EE looking.

Stockys used to carry them, they're mostly all backorder now.. they're showing 3 stainless short action one pieces in stock, but no measurements listed to know how that will compare to your action. I'll send you the link? If your Winchester is a short action maybe call and confirm fit.

Thanks to all for the info. I am finding out parts are harder to find than first thought. The pro is I wont loose any shells out the bottom. The con is to unload with bolt all the time. Will keep looking till my mind is made up.

Try Keith Long in Bewdley Ontario. He was at one time a warranty centre for Winchester, he still might be idk. I’ve bought stuff from him in the past. He usually travels somewhere sunny for the winters though.
