Winchester 785

Recently came across 6 cans (lbs.) of Win 785 powder. The cans are sealed and on opening one it looks like the powder is like new. Does anyone have any experience with this powder and would it be safe to use? Looking for load data for 22-250, 2506, 3006 for this powder.

Hi, I still have some 785 powder, From what I have read it is the same powder as Hodgdon's discontinued H-450

Should be fine for 22-250 and 25-05 but too slow for 30-06
I use it in .270 and it works very well.

I found it useful in the .243 Winchester with 85 and 100 grain bullets; the .270 Winchester with 130, 140 and 150 grain bullets; .280 Remington with 120 grain bullets; 7mm Remington Magnun with 160, 168 and 175 grain bullets; .30-.284 Winchester with 165 to 180 grain bullets; .30-06 with 165, 168, 175 and 180 grain bullets; and the 8mm Remington Magnum with 175 to 180 grain bullets.

785 was the slowest of the winchester line of powders. It's too bad that they discontinued it. If I look around hard enough, I can probably find loading data for it for you.

I have both H 450 and W 785 and I have not found any diff in the loading data.In fact they are about the same burn rate as Reloader 22.If i can't find H 450 data I use Reloader 22 and start a little low just to be safe.

If you use a casefull in the 45-70, you will get blackpowder type velocity.
