Hi , took my 94(pre 64) to the range today for the first time, and noticed right away that it was quite difficult to chamber the round. I had to give a bit of a squeeze to close the action. It was fully closed and tight though. Shot 8 rounds, and closing the action fully was not as smooth as I have felt in the past. It shot super well, accurate and I was somewhat happy with it.
I got it home and started to look at the action and the reason it seemed to be a little "sticky" was that it seems to bind up a little just ahead of the hammer where the locking bolt meets the breach bolt. Is this normal? Any help appreciated.

I have gone through the same thing.
In past years I have done considerable shooting, including competitive shooting, with two pre 64 Model 94 Winchester's. After the one had sat for some years a son told me he didn't think the action worked all that smooth.
I tried it and agreed.
I think the problem was we had been shooting lever action Marlin's in the interval!

Its the extractor riding over the rim of the cartridge as the bolt finally closes. I had 2 pre 64 do this, my post 64 was fine.

Well played. Damn Marlin's. Haha

Even better with the 1894 is when/if the cartridge sneeks past the cartridge stop and parks itself under the feed ramp locking the action up tight and making the rifle an expensive club... Just hope it doesn't happen while facing an angry bear. ;)
