A friend just called me about buying his deceased father's guns. I haven't seen them yet and he didn't know for sure what was there, but he did know his dad had two Winchester commemortives, an RCMP commemorative and Buffalo Bill commemorative. They do not have boxes but he describes them as "like new", so not sure if fired or not.

His mother wants them all sold as a lot, but I'm concerned about buying these commemoratives because they seem hard to sell these days.

Any comments about quick sale value or difficulty selling? Could they be sold simply as shooters? I've heard a story that Winchester built their commemoratives on sub standard receivers as a way to get rid of them. Is there any truth to that?

Given that I'm not interested in keeping these rifles, what should I pay for them and still have a hope of selling them quickly?

Thanks, guys!

Out of the box and "like new," means they are just like any other post 64 model 94 Winchester in good condition.
I don't know what calibre the Buffalo Bill came in. If other than 30-30, it would be worth a bit more.

There has been a lot more commemorative 94's surfacing as of late. I would think that not only what the commemorative may pertain to such as the "last spike" edition, the "RCMP" edition, "Klondike" etc, but also in what calibre the specific rifle is chambered to. Unfired would fetch a higher price, even more so with the original packaging. A buddy of mine has one chambered in the 38-55 and uses it to fill his white tail tags every hunting season. They seem to be well made rifles. I've seen the commemoratives go from anywhere between $500 to $650, depending on the general mood of the EE here or if you were to advertise in the bargain finder. Personally, I think your asking price could be higher if you were to advertise in the bargain finder than if you were to advertise on the EE. Just my 2 cents

Actually if you dont have the box and it have been fired even once they loose a lot of value, my two comemoratives RCMP never been fired and the box and paper are like it is just out of the factory, i could have the highest bid for those 2... JP.

Most of the commemoratives I've seen are tacky looking rifles that I would never even consider for purchase.....I'd rather have a well used older 94 with a patina and stories to tell.....

Not a fan of the gold bling.

If she wants them all gone and you can get them for cheap someone will buy them but I would treat them like any other 94 for value...actually I'd treat them as less then that but that's just my personal taste.

+1 I'm not a fan of the gold bling commemoratives either.

That said, I don't mind the silver finished ones in .30-30 Win for "shooters", though. I currently have a Cowboy 20" brl SRC and a Legendary Lawmen 16" trapper brl SRC. Both are strictly shooters. I have the box/papers for the Lawmen but none for the Cowboy.

I had a, likely unfired, Bat Masterson [silver finish] commemorative in .30-30 Win, with box, papers & tags for many years but recently sold it on the EE as I had no intention of shooting it so it was surplus for me. It went very quickly as I priced it accordingly.

NAA.

"...calibre the Buffalo Bill came in..." .30-30 only.
As mentioned, commemoratives that aren't still sealed in the box are worth the same as any other Win 94 in like condition. There's nothing special about 'em other than the engraving, etc.
The 'RCMP' might be worth a bit more if it's one of the rifles originally sold only to active and retired members of the RCMP. S/N starts with 'RCMP' vs 'MP'. Only 5100 of those were made.

I agree with you but what I'm trying to get a handle on is what I could sell them for. I don't want to own them so don't want to be stuck with them because I'm in to them for too much.

So they have no box, let's assume fired, what price would it take to move them quickly?

Ya...ok

Serious value of good condition coms

BBill...$350-400 & it will sell
the RCMPs are a very nice gun, I've always wanted one.
A good shooter should bring you $450-500 IMHO!

I'm sure you are right Senior but he said fast sale, and I figure if some nut can get a good deal it's not all bad.....

There were 2 batches of the RCMP commerative rifles made, one for the public and one for rcmp members, the difference is that the rcmp member ones have a serial number (MP-----) while the public ones have no number, there is a large difference in the value of these two batches.
I got a members version and would sell it!
