Winchester 94 - Finger Lever Pin???

I've got a Winchester 94 (pre-64 30-30). It shoots and cycles fine, but after recently looking at a parts schematic, I realize I am missing the Finger Lever Pin. I had wondered about the tiny hole above the loading port, but assumed it was just that, a hole. Turns out it holds the Finger Lever Pin which is supposed to cross the inside of the receiver (held in place by a screw on the opposite side of the receiver). Anyone know what this pin does and if I need to get one for my Win 94. If I had to guess from the position the pin would be in, I would think it may serve to impede the case a bit as it is being ejected? I googled this, but all I could learn is that a lot of Winchester's have nothing in that hole - some blogs even mention it is for "gas venting", so apparently the Finger Lever Pin falls out A LOT!

Also, is there a place to get Winchester parts in Canada? The pin is readily available on a lot of American web sites, but the ones I checked don't export gun parts to Canadian residents.

Any info would be appreciated.

It sounds like the Cartridge Guide Screw, which holds the Cartridge guide in place.

The Finger Lever Pin is installed and removed from the left side of the receiver. It is held in place by the Finger Lever Pin Stop Screw.

Yep, you would put the pin in through the left side (after removing the screw) and it would recess itself in the hole on the right side of the receiver and be held there by replacing the screw on the left side once the pin is inserted.

Still wondering what this pin would do and if I need to get one. My last Win 94 had it missing as well.

Nope. If this part was missing then the gun would not work. Unless something else was crammed in there.

Nope. If this happened the bolt could not open.

The hole is used to remove the Finger Lever Pin. A punch is inserted in the hole to push the pin out, no other purpose.

Pin isn't there and gun works great. It looks like you would insert the pin through the hole where the screw is on the left side. It would pass through the receiver and the tip of it would recess a bit into the hole on the right side. The screw would then be replaced on the left side... and then the pin would be held in place - between the screw on the left and the hole on the right. I'll stick a toothpick in there tomorrow to act as a temporary pin and see what it does.... Maybe just causes the empty shell to flip out in a different trajectory.

That pin is what attaches the lever to the bolt. You need to remove the screw and push the pin out to strip it. Can't believe the rifle cycles without it, the lever should just flop around. The pin is not visible from the right side, that's just an access hole.

The pin can only be see at one point during the cycle, remove the screw, and slowly cycle the action. You will see the head of the pin when it lines up with the disassembly hole. That is when you can push it out from right to left.

Ahhhh, case solved - Thanks - it is there! I should have stared at it a few more minutes before making my original post!
