Hello, my dad just picked up a 1947 winchester 94 and the rear sight has the buckhorns ground off. It's quite hard to pick up the front sight and looks terrible to boot while also having a chunk gouged out of it on the right side of the rear sight. The bluing is mostly gone and the metal has a nice patina and we were thinking of trying to find a new rear sight or getting one of those tang mounted peep sights. Just kind of looking to see if anyone has any ideas on what to do or where to get the parts. The issue with getting new parts being that they won't match the patina of the rifle, so if anyone knows where to get old used parts or how to fake a patina if we were to get a new sight please feel free to chime in!

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Upon further inspection the front pin was also ground down so we'd be looking for a new one of those aswell.

Gun shows will have just what you want, there are at least two vendors that I can think of off hand that do both Calgary and Red Deer shows that usually carry a good supply of what your looking for but be ready for a jolt when you see the prices for just an original buck-horn take-off...lots of people looking to do the same thing you are so they hold a very strong resale value.

A tang sight will be a cheaper option provided the gun is a "way before 64 " model with tang sight mounting holes already tapped, if it hasn't been the smithing charges for adding them may bring the price up to be comparable to the replacement buckhorn.
