Winchester 94 pre vs post 64 stock inletting differences?

Are there differences in the inletting of pre & post 64 Winchester 94s? I'm wondering if post 64 stocks will fit on a pre 64.

I've read that they will fit with some slight modification.

On a pre 64 the upper tang is different.Post 64 is flat on top where it's inletted for the tang.Pre 64 has wings.

Correct, if you put a post 64 stock on a pre 64 action you will see a noticeable gap to the rear of the upper tang.

Do you mean the part that flares out behind the hammer? I saw a 1920 model that was very rounded there but the '61 I just bought and post 64s I've seen photos of show a very sharp flare or 'wing'.

The tang is wider on a post 64 Winchester. I don't know the cut-off date exactly when things changed, I just know a post-64 will not fit a pre-64 precisely.

pre 64s have rounded upper tang wings...the post 64s have sharper wings.
