winchester 9410 who shoots one

I have one of the first model 9410 models and only took it out 2 times partridge hunting. I found out that you cannot chamber a new round while the barrell is facing the ground, this was fixed in the next models by putting a magnitized bolt head in the new models helping the round cycle properly. I have though shot it for fun in the gravel pits at clay target and such, really fun! Do you the have problems with cycling in any of the newer models? It was amazing that Winchester admitted the problem right away. I will likely never sell the gun as it is in 100% condition and not many of the first models were made, glad to here you enjoy yours also, Dale in T-Bay

Mine is the newer model with the magnetized bolt head and have never had a malfunction with it,My version also has the tang safety and the screw in chokes.

9410

Nice thread, I would love to buy one but I think they are hard to find, people I have asked behind counters look at me like I just asked for the holy hand grenade:p

My friends gunshop had 4 of the first batch sit on a shelf for a year or so with no takers! Until they heard Winchester was closing the New Haven plant ,then they all dissappeared! So i guess the market place ruled once again.Another friend was managing a general outdoors store where they sell alot of fishing gear and have maybe 100 guns to keep in the game. I went in there aftyer hearing Winchester was closing and told him about it. He said so? I had to tell him the former manager ordered 7 when they first came out. Next time I saw him he said he found 4 in the storage area and that he sold all them in a little over a week! He gave me a reall sweetheart of a deal on the 1950 Savage 99 300sav. that I spotted on the rack that was 90%+ for helping him out on the Win 9410's he didn't know he had! The manager told me it would have been years before they would of found out that those 4 guns were in there large offsite warhouse. I just thought a good story might be appreciated, dale in T-Bay

I have one, it has the magnetized bolt head and full length mag, but still has the cross bolt safety and cylinder bore. I've been looking for a tang model with screw in chokes and a full length mag, but as mentioned, they are not to be found.

It has to be one of the most fun guns I have ever used. I originally bought it for doing rat control work. I needed a high capacity gun, and since semi's are limited to 5, the 9410 with the 9+1 capacity seemed to fit the bill. I was lucky enough then to find one within about 3 months, the only full length mag I've ever found for sale. They were already out of manufacture by the time I decided I needed one.

I bought it for work, but have since used it for all kinds of stuff, it is just a blast to shoot, I just wish I had the invector choke system, as I'm really limited on range, which takes a lot of clays shooting out of the picture. On rats under a bale stack, it's nearly perfect, and for flushing pigeons out of granaries, more choke would be nice, but as long as I'm quick I can get lots. I use primarily 1/2 oz of #9's.

Downsides are that the fiber optic front sight is crap, the fibers keep falling out, so I finally replaced it with a steel front sight off a 94 after the 3rd fiber broke. The back sight loosened off and I lost a screw, but fortunately I still had the plastic rear sight, so I suggest a little locktite on it would be a good idea. I did wear out the loading gate spring, it was still functioning, but had very little spring left in it, but it wasn't too hard to change out, and I suspect that it's no different then any other 94 for wear, it lasted about 4000 rounds fired, and I would think easily another 1000 rounds through the loading gate, loading and unloading while pigeon hunting. The receiver is like all later 94 receivers seem to be for finish, and doesn't hold off the rust that well, so make sure to keep it well oiled. I ended up putting a leather wrap on the lever, it wasn't too bad, but when I was putting a 100-200 rounds a session through it on multiple hand thrown clays, I found the bare steel to get hard on the knuckles.

Feeding I've found to be exceptional, very rarely a bobble, even with hulls that have been reloaded multiple times. Probably at least 95% of the rare feeding issues are operator error.

It's one of the funnest guns I own, I can understand why there are none on the market, anyone who has used there's isn't about to get rid of it.

Mine is the full tube version also. When I bought mine , the guy I bought it from(a fellow gunnut) had two the same , new in the box, but unfortunately at the time I could barely afford one.I still wish I had of bought the other one I could of tripled my money.

Yeah, no kidding, if you ever get tired of yours, send me a pm, I've even considered just getting chokes installed in mine, as I think that will be a lot easier then finding one with the chokes.

I have not, but it would be a matter of removing one screw to pop the end off the mag tube, and drop in some wood dowel, a little trial and error on length. I got mine second hand, so it's possible some of them came with a plug.

PS if you ever have a crimp fail in the tube, and jam it up, be careful, when you pull the end off the mag tube with tension on the mag spring, it will come alive and beat the ever livin tar out of you.

I would like to hear from the Marlin lever 410 group on how they like them? the reliabilty and function, handling charastics and fit and finish! Would make a great comparison to the Winchesters! And anyone in Canada who has one of the first Marlin levers made back in the 1920-30 period? Dale in T-Bay

I lost a better pic of the gun with the two birds. Love this gun! It is my Ultimate-Never-ever-no-matter-how-desperate-never-sell gun!
