Winchester 9422 and Williams Peep Sight

Picked up a minty 9422 lever gun that was made in 1968, took it to the range on the weekend. Wow! I'm impressed with the action, smooth as silk, no FTF, no jams and after some adjustments to the elevation on the rear leaf sights, the rifle shot approx. 3" groups at 50 yds. So..I ordered today a Williams peep sight, Model FP-GR-TK w/Target Knobs which mounts on the receiver scope grooves (I did not want to drill out the receiver).

According to Williams, I won't have to change out the front Winchester sight. Anyone have any experience with these particular sights? Good? Bad? Comments please.

I tried a FP-GR on my 9422 and I found that I ran out of adjustment (could not lower enough for 50 yards... a taller front sight is needed on mine.
(just looked at the williams site and it says that .350 is the lowest this sight will go)

I didn't really like the extra width that the FP GR added to the slim receiver and have decided to go with something like this one from Newengland...

I think Williams also makes one similar the the New England peep that also mounts on the rimfire dovetails.

The other williams one I was thinking of is the Williams WGRS-54 Guide Receiver Peep but I don't know if it's lower then the FPGR. (needs .450 front sight)

"...that was made in 1968..." Somebody has been leading you astray. The 9422 wasn't introduced until 1972. Not that it matters.
Williams is a highly respected manufacturer of aftermarket sights etc. They've been in business since 1926. High quality stuff.

Williams WGRS-54

Hey Can-Down, I spoke to Williams in the U.S. today because this was the peep that I was going to order and the rep. told me no, I don't want that one. Why I asked? He says...because you not only have to change out the front sight, but this model doesn't tighten up enough on the receiver, in most cases it will just fall off. He recommended the model that I have already ordered..and tells me that I should be able to use with my standard Winchester front sight. I'm looking to have it set up for 75 - 100 yards, so hopefully not a problem. If it is, I guess I'll just change out the front blade for one of their fire sights.

Change front sight

Spoke to Williams today, and got them to include a new front sight in the shipment .343 mm vs. I think .250 std. height. I'm waiting for thee Winchester historian to get back to me with the correct info. - size of dovetail, etc.

According to Williams this will resolve the issue of lowering the sight below 50 yards.

Once I get and try out (which Williams says should be in the next 10 days) I can give you an update as to fit, finish and of course, accuracy.
