Many moons ago (30+ yrs) I used to shoot my uncle's lever 22 it was plain and simple fun plinking back then which I fondly remember.
Today I came across a Winchester 9422 in excellent condition its about nine years old plus it comes with original papers and box. How are these guns for accuracy and depedability also what is a reasonable price to pay.

I paid $200 brand new for mine about 15 years ago... (It was a helluva deal then) I since traded it with my father and bought it back in mint condition for $300. If I were to sell it(which I won't) I wouldn't take a penny less than $450 but It might get as much as $550.
Accuracy, IMO excellent.
First shot is very consistent in a 5 shot group at 25 yds they were all touching but in a perfectly even horizontal line, still a small group.

Thanks for your reply, I dug out my 2006 Russells Sporting goods Catalogue in it is listed a Model 9422 Special Edition Traditional Tribute for $529.99 Cdn. This is very similar to the one I saw today except the new one at Russells has the engraved horse and rider. Is the new one virtually the same quality of the 9 year old one? Its good to hear the little gun is decently accurate as levers for me have a real nostalgic aspect and are just plain fun to shoot.

They are no longer in production so it's a sellers market.
Personally, I wouldn't pay more than 350, no taxes.
This year I bought 2 since I figure they are only going to get more expensive - a 22 Mag for $250 plus taxes and a .22LR for $325.
You can always buy a Marlin 39. A used one is about the same price. It's still in production and has been for made for over a 100 years.

Buy It!!! I would pay up to $400 or $450 if it is in real good shape..... I would take no less than $400 for mine and its been with me since I was a pup and seen more shells than you can imagine...still shoots straight and cycles beautifully!!! Oh.... I'm gettin a woody just thinkin about it....actually screw you guys...I'm going plinking!!!!
 
I got a Win.9422 mag. had it now for 33 years , it has always worked flawlessly , accurate , never a problem , wouldn't sell it for anything , seen them at gun shows for $400 for the .22 long rifle , and saw one last week the mag. the guy asking $495 , he'd probably take $450. I also have 2 Marlin's the 39-as , 39 mountie ( 24 and 20 inch barrel ) they are great guns too. had many hours of fun with all 3 guns , mag., good for groundhogs to about 130 yards , and the .22 longs good to about 100 yards using Remington Yellowjackets , if chosing i think it's a matter of what you personally like best , all of them are good . Lever 22

Thank you everybody for all the good advice, now I have other choices such as the Marlin 39A and know now how much I should pay for a 9422. The fellow that had the 9422 said he paid $550.00 a number of years ago and wants to recover all his costs then I politely showed him the 2006 Russels catalogue where it was listed for less brand new plus with the logo engraved. If the fellow can come up with a more reasonable price I will consider the 9422 for now I will wait and see.
 
Well, from what I have been told the marlin is also a great firearm. But.... its a gun you will probley be able to buy new or readily next year or maybe 10 yrs from now!! The winny's are only gonna get harder to find!! Buy whichever one tickles your tool...thats what its all about!!!:dancingbanana:
 
I have handled both the Marlin and the 94 recently and my person preference is with the Marlin. I really like the 24 inch barrel, and the wider fore end grip. Seems like it just put together better than the 94. Saw a very nice 94 at P&D to day think they have $395,00 on it with very nice figured wood on the butt stock FS
 
Last Sept I saw one at a gunshow, with a cheap scope, in excellent condition. He wanted $600, I offered $550, he declined. So I got a NIB .22 BLR model FLD grade 1 out the door for $600 instead.

Exactly my feelings, after reading the previous posts there are many better choices for a lever 22 the BLR being at the top of the list. One of favorite guns of all time was a Browning BLR in 243. Other choices are Marlins and Henry's both of which will continue to be built for many years to come and as some have stated are more accurate than the winchester.

The reason I became interested in the 9422 is that I advertised a very nice Stevens 12ga. in the local BST one of the replies was from a fellow who wanted to trade his 9422, yes its in great shape, but the fellow wants far to much for it and wants my Stevens for zip, therefore no deal.

Seeing the little lever at least sparked my interest in getting one and through the good advice of you and others on this forum I am narrowing my choices down.

Just dropped into the Wholesale Sports (Calgary) website, they have the M39AS 24" barrel listed for $ 499.00.

Time to work some more shifts at Blue Mtn chairlifts for me.....
 
The Marlin 39A is a sweet rifle, even the new ones with the safety abomination. Even if you have to scan 10,000 lift tickets....
