Hi. So I was at the range last weekend. A gentleman had a really nice looking lever action. I looked it over. It was a Winchester 9422M. It turns out that he wants to sell it. Low round count. Perfect condition. Now I have had a model 94 30-30 since the early seventies. Great Gun. Why would I want a 22 magnum? So, I bought it by accident.

What did I buy? Can anyone out there tell me about this rifle? Is it good? What are your opinions?

Thanks. Kevin

I bought one new in 1986. It was my first brand new rifle and still have it.
I've owned other 22mags and this one is still the most accurate and classiest ones of the bunch.
It's about as reliable as you could ask for. I've never seen one the same as the one I have so I don't know how many they made.
Mine is a 9422m classic with a semi pistol grip, blued steel but plate and no checkering.

When I looked at it, the seller had his phone with him. So we looked at a bunch of sites to get a ball park figure. I probably paid too much. $800. But man is it a nice looking rifle.

That price is not surprising. You will see higher, seldom lower, if the rifle is in fine condition.

This thread caused me to pull mine out of the lockup. I bought it close to thirty years ago at an estate sale, for resale in my shop. As new, in the box. Decided it was too nice to sell, kept it. The box has suffered, but the rifle is still as new. I haven't shot it, don't know that it has ever been fired outside the factory. These are really fine rifles.

That's my dream lever rimfire. I'd love to fall into one in decent shape. You're a lucky fellow.

So I took the 9422M to the range today. What a nice rifle to shoot. The action is as smooth as butter, quite a bit shorter than the 94 30-30. The longer barrel is nice for accuracy. It will take a while to get used to the side eject. When you cycle the 30-30 it almost lands the empty cartridges in your top pocket! This one kicks them way out the side. The rifle is nicely balanced. Feels good all around.
