i just got a Winchester 96 xpert 12 ga in very good condition for a great price, I am not an over under guy at all, tactical and vintage pump shotgun is more my thing, I got to tell you I did research i found that the 96 is a poor man 101 with the same mechanic but no frills, example no engraving wood is not as nice ect, has a 26 inch barrel with a full and mod choke,

my question is all i read about the 96 tell me it has ejector, I have fake round I made to practice loading with empty spent case well they don't eject when i open the shotgun they just raise a bit like extractor, the gun is very thigh, is there something I don't know about ejectors.

thanks for your help

ps what is the value of my shotguns with blue at 95/100 and wood also at 95/100 just curious want to keep this one.

When you close the action of your new to you 96, give the bottom of the butt stock a good thump with the palm of your hand.
Should then reset the ejectors and when you open the action one or both will/should eject ...depends how many times you have pulled the trigger.
Hope this helps.

It is normal to extract unfired cartridges and eject fired empty cases. You need some range time.
Your 96 Expert was manufactured by Olin Kodensha, similar to the 101, but with Nikko style ejectors.

Ejector will only work if that barrel has fired. Pull the trigger on a snap cap and it should eject. An unfired barrel will only lift the shell out of th echamber a bit. This is so you can reload a fired barrel wihtout both shells going flying.

From what I've seen in recent years. Even though the 96 is supposed to be a "lower" grade than the 101... the used prices are about the same.
- Your 26" barrel is less common, would probably be easier to sell (Should you decide to do so). Depending on the time of year, anywhere between $700 to a optimistic $1,000
- Fix choke are not that popular these days...

that great guys thank you for all the info, I guest i did good on this one i paid 400$ at my local gun store, I will go and tried it next week so i can check the ejectors.

I bought one about four years ago. It is a olds skeet gun, 27" barrels ,choked skeet and skeet. I have shot some woodcock with it. One round of sporting. It does not fit mew very well ,I find the flat rib and general dimensions of the gun, awkward. Anyway paid $400.00 for it, Lives in the gun locker ,doesn't eat much.
