winchester 97,PROBLEM!!

Well this old 97 I found in barn covered in rust is now rust free and looks quite good. Except where some "person" once tried to get barrel off with a pipe wrench-its a solid frame- there are no real marks or pits. Its worthwile making it a shooter again. now here is the Problem: it was completely stripped down and cleaned up, AND I put the bolt in and the follower below and now I cant get the bottom out!!! There is no trigger in it and nothing else but the bolt and follower. When I took it apart( with a good manual on disasembley) The bottom piece just came down and out. then the trigger group ,the bolt, etc, What do I do!!!!???? Do I need a 'smith? One of you experts? HELP!! JITC

Probably you do need a gunsmith.If you found it covered in rust in a barn, it might not be a bad idea to have a smith look at it anyways.

Soak it in oil, and give it a few light taps with a BRASS punch.

Which manual are you using? The best on I have ever found is "U.S. Shotguns, All Types" TM 9-285. It has 14 excellent pages on the M97.
