Winchester Ammunition to Load E-Tip™, Lead-Free Bullet

The E-Tip lead-free bullet from Winchester Ammunition is the latest new product developed for big-game hunters.

This bullet was co-developed with Nosler and is the latest project between the two companies. It features an E2™ energy expansion cavity which promotes consistent upset at a variety of impact ranges and it’s made of Gilding metal instead of pure copper, which helps prevent barrel fouling and provides for a 100% lead free bullet.

Key features of the Winchester® E-Tip™ bullet include:

• E2 Cavity—Promotes expansion at long and short ranges and improves accuracy
• Gilding metal —Lead-free design that provides near 100 percent weight retention and helps prevent barrel fouling compared to pure copper loads
• Polycarbonate Tip—Resists deformation, improves down range ballistics
• Boat-tail Design—Reduces drag and provides a more efficient flight profile for higher retained energy at long range
• Lubalox® Coating—Helps prevent barrel fouling

E-Tip™ is loaded exclusively by Winchester and will be initially available in the following calibers:
Symbol Cartridge Bullet Weight Muzzle Velocity
S3006ET 30-06 Springfield 180g 2750
S300SET 300 WSM 180g 3010
S300WMET 300 Win-Mag 180g 2950
S308ET 308 Winchester 180g 2620

wonder how it will effect their sales of the new Supreme Elite Xp3 ammo they released last year - very similar bullet

christ they hot rod the WSM. more marketing voodoo

Id be up for putting a box through my rifle and see how they shoot. Hopefully they will be cheaper then normal lead bullets, as lead prices are going up.

I wouldnt count on these E-Tips being any cheaper than other premium ammo featuring Partitions, Accubonds, TSX, etc

The E-Tips are Nosler's answer for a possible prohibition on all lead bullets in California that is in the works. (In my opinion it could also a bid to gain back some market share thay have lost to Barnes although no one at Nosler would admit that. ;) ) )

Nosler developed the bullet - had press release dated April 12 on their forum site.. The only difference with the Winchester model of E-tip is that it has the black Lubalox coating. If the E-tip is available to reload early this fall, I'll buy a box to try out in my 300WM.

EDIT: Well after looking at the Winchester Info dated April 16, I guess it was co-developed between the 2 companies, so I stand corrected.
But as mentioed the only difference is the black Lubalox coating - similar to the Accubond CT's from Winchester Supreme compared to the Federal Accubonds or the bullets available to reloaders.

Sounds like Winchester wanting a piece of the pie BArnes has been nibbling on with their TSX.

Much like TSX would this bullet be design with a heavy boned animal in mind?
