Hi folks,

I just recently bought two boxes of Winchester win clean ammunition with brass jacketed bullets.

The bullet has a brass jacket and an exposed lead tip in what I would call a 185 grain semi-wadcutter design in .45ACP.

Can anyone with experience tell me about the properties of brass jacketed?

Does the bullet expand? How so compared to ball or hollowpoints?
Is the brass harder or softer than copper jacketed?
Do I risk any long term dammage to my barrel? Sig p220 elite stainless.
What kind of solvents might I need to get brass fouling of a barrel?

Any other concerns I should know about?

Your help is appreciated, but please only comment if you have experience with brass bullets. I'm looking for practical evaluations.

The jacket could be either brass or bronze, depending on what the copper is alloyed with, either zinc or tin. No difference than copper, all of the metals are much softer than barrel steels.

There are even bullets that have copper plated, soft steel jackets. These are commonly used in eastern bloc military rifle bullets, again, the barrels wear out not from the bullet moving down the barrel but by throat erosion by the hot gasses from the powder.

Bottom line is there is no noticeable difference. Put it this way, even if there is a difference, the cost of replacing your barrel after 50,000 rounds is nothing compared to the cost of the ammo you have shot through it.

50,000 rounds = $425/1000 x 50 = $21,250
