Winchester Buys the farm? No more Winchesters?

I think the main issue, for me anyways, is no more model '94's. What a sad thing. The lever action is very North American, and is part of our history, and the Winchester is the most identifiable of all the lever actions. You could probably go anywhere in the world and people would agree:
Wild west + Lever Action = Winchester.

Without a Winchester M1894 how would John Wayne have won the US Civil War and pacified Dodge City?

Oh Pulleeze...

This is a Marketing ploy on the part of the company.

Create a public outcry, and a "We'll buy one to support you" rally and make the company attractive to a potential buyer...
the solution is as easy as licensing the manufacture of the 94's to another company.
This is a smoke and mirrors corporate play to create new buzz...
I bet cha...

It'll be like this:

"Hey pilgrim, pass me that saddle gun wudja".

"Yes John Wayne san, I made it for you myself. You like?".

No biggy guys. You'll still be able to get your Winclaksters for a long while I'm convinced of that. It is sad that US produced guns might be history tho....

Won't be the same if they produce the line in Japan. Browning sure hasn't it!

The Miroku made Brownings are still very nice, imho. I have two. I had heard that Win's would still be produced in Japan. If it's Miroku making them you might see the quality improve! ;)

listened to a US radio talk show last night, when insomnia wouldnt let me sleep. they were talking about this, said that the plant is done, and the winchesters will be comeing from belgium, and potugal. that is the part of the WW line that they keep. no more 94s, but i be tthat changes

I heard that the Winchester Plant has been bought by General Electric.... and they are keeping the dies and all the equipment to make Can Openers... should be a simple refit....;) :D

Redd,

your usage of the corporate name "General Electric" is in violation of pattent law and you can be held liable for slander and malicious intent to cause economic loss.

As for a chapter 11 filing, this is obviously an excercise for the company to shed any law suits and union requirements as well as contractual obligations that hinder their ability to operate profitably. The financial restructuring will likely only take a fiscal quarter with the receiver either taking a back seat montior role or a more active role in marketing the company as a going concern. Unfortunately, pattent designs leased from Browning will not be eligable for purchase by any buyers, only the winchester pattents, tooling, facility and goodwill. I would hazard a guess that the company will not be sold, and will simply shed its union obligations and legal suits it might be defending and likely move production to China.

Hello SAUM...bye bye WSM and little WSSM. Remington is planning a big Feb roll out of new product by the looks of things from their web site....maybe something that will make us forget about Winchester

The ammo is a totally different company and is staying. The guns however is still up in the air. I hope someone bails them out and keep making them for historical and nostalga reasons alone. I have some winchesters and don't know wether or not to sell them. Might have to switch to Marlin's.

Firearms Patents and names have changed hands many times in the history of gun making. Ithaca changed hands at least four times... maybe more.
Why would you sell your Winchesters.... duh!
These pre-2006 models are worth more now and will certainly gain in value regardless of what happens with the future manufacture of Winchesters.
