Winchester Commemorative, Cheyenne Carbine 44-40

One of these came my way, unfired, but no box. It has the tang sight and as I've never shot a 44-40 or a lever with a tang sight, I'm half tempted to try it out.

I have a couple of other Winchester Commemorative rifles, and except for one, all had been fired before I bought them. I traded some and sold others. I have a 30-30, a 38-55 and now a 44-40.

My keepers are a Bat Masterson, and a Saskatchewan Diamond Jubilee. Both of these are "silver" and the "gold" Cheyenne looks odd beside the other 2.

I'm not sure I want to keep this one, but I'd like to shoot it. Do they loose much value if they are fired?

What do you think it's worth unfired without the box? As a shooter?

If I had a week moment and came by an other one I would leave it unfired . If you like to collect them great. Myself the box is not to important , as I like to have my collection out where I can look at and feel them once in a while. As far as a shooter I would swap it for a rifle that was designed for the short cartridges. The one I had was planed to be a backup gun for cowboy action shooting. After 2 trips to the gunsmith ,who has a reputation for slicking up the leaver action's for the cowboy action shooters, it was still a hateful thing to use.I traded it off for a Uberti.

Personally, I like the commemoratives with the "silver" finish over gold. I have a couple: Legendary Lawmen [SRC "trapper" with 16" brl] and Cowboy [SRC 20" brl].

Both shooters!

Had a Bat Masterson, but the checkering on the stock was like a cheese grater! So, sold it without firing it.
