Hello all! I have an inherited Canadian made Winchester Cooey model 750 with the standard iron sights on it. Is there any reason to NOT fit it with a basic scope to make it more shootable for my old eyes? Thinking it may decrease the value of a somewhat older 22. Or are these things so basic and common they have no real value as collectibles?

If your 750 happens to have a dovetailed receiver, mounting a scope is no problem
My 750 that I just moved on was not factory drilled nor was the receiver dovetailed.
It is of my opinion that it is not worth the expense to have the receiver drilled and tapped.
You will not hurt the value by doing so.
I own approx. 20 Cooeys, so I would say they are a niche market in terms of collectability.
Even though the prices have recently increased considerably, don't figure on getting rich.

Also need to get your hands on a Weaver side mount 48402, then go look'n for the scope mount 49350.
Unless you already have them.

I'm a fairly new gun nut, and this is what I got. Google says this is not a dovetail receiver, so you don't think it's worth the cost to have it altered to be able to mount a scope?

value 75$-200$ depending on condition and 200$ is a stretch

Like stated, it adds up quickly, unless you are comfortable drilling & taping yourself.
Then it's just the cost of the mounts... and a small older scope to fit the 1" rings.
If you got a hardon for a scoped Cooey... check out a few auctions.
They come up all the time and usually... yours for under $200/with scope.

Mainly just wanting to shoot what I already have and not feel like it's a waste of ammo when I go to the range. In reality, lowering my expectations on the range that I'll be able to accurately hit the target with the open iron sights on this thing.

Mainly writing to get some posts, but I’m a pretty big fan of the 750. For some reason I fancy one over the 600 or 60. And ideally one of the latest grooved ones. Im a single shot kind of guy. Got a Rem 580 that I like a lot.

Op, I’m sure that’ll be a fun and faithful companion if you can live with the open sights. And personally I would not feel bad about scoping it if you find you want to keep it.

Have fun with it.

How are others dealing with their vision challenges? Does anyone paint the front sight to help it contrast with the rear?
Dab two green dots on either side of the rear sight notch and put a dab of red on the very top of the front sight. Or vice versa...

Use fluorescent paint. The stuff kids put on their fingernails for glow in the dark at Halloween. No kidding, it's quite durable, too.

I’ve had two of my 69A’s receivers milled for scope rings.
Never cared much for those side mount gizmos.
Especially when the optics aren’t sitting over the bawrell proper.

Had my beat up rusted shut new to me Trombone drilled and tapped for a rail.
Works formadubbly.

Forget the value of yer shooter.
Drill it on top if possible and enjoy thuhnluv’in jeezbuzz out of’er.
