I was sitting down with my brother and father today and my brother was saying how he wanted to buy a new rifle. He picked out a Winchester Model 70 Coyote stainless in .270 WSM. Is this a farely good rifle? He found one availiable at a pretty good price. We have all heard horror stories of the last produced model 70's. What can a guy look for at the store before he brings this home to avoid a bad one? Dad has a sour opinion of Winchester after he had a bad one in the 80's and I have never owned one. Thanks in advance.

Hard to say. I have the same rifle only with a blued barrel. Mine had a trigger job and I've since had it free floated and bedded. It's in 243WSSM so I'm limited with ammo and the Winchester stuff isn't that accurate.

Mine is nice to shoot and I believe will be a shooter with the right reloads. That being said he may want to consider the Kimber. It's basically a sligthly upper scaled version. They are very nice. The price isn't bad considering it would cost you the same to have a trigger job, bed and free float the Winchester. Which usually isn't needed with the Kimber.
