Winchester M-100 mutant?

I have heard of some of these fine old semi's that were rechambered for 358 winchester. I have one in .308 that honestly has had the rifling shot right out of it. First is it possible to get it pulled out to .358, next is how much would a procedure like this cost, and who knows someone who's has either done it or is competent and willing to try?
 
"...is it possible to get it pulled out to .358..." Having a barrel re-bored is very expensive. Deep hole turning/boring requires a very skilled machinist. Think in terms of $70 per hour and up.
 
It must be able to be done. I saw one of these at a gun show and the fellow behind the table said the previous owner had the gunsmith install a 358 barrel from the model 88. I would think that no changes would be nessessary because brass for 243,308 and 358 all the same.The mags all interchange also.It would be a real mean machine to have a 358 semi-auto :50cal:

Ed Vonatzgen did mine,705-742-6693.He's on the east side of peterbourgh.He did a nice jog.Got a choice of turns like 1 in 12,1 in 14 but forget what I had.There were about 3 choices for twists.He sent the barrel out west for reboring and rechambered it himself.Job was about 400# if I remember right.

Drilling the gas ports and going from one receiver to another head spaceing will have to be done so it would cost more than you think to do all this with buying an 88 in 358 than changeing a 100 to 358.
 
I had Ed Vonatzgen do one for me a few years back.I just love it.As senior said about $400 covered it.I had a kick with it but it turned out to be the stock needed bedding and not the gun itself as I thought at first,changed the stock and away we went will ne probs.

Alrighty, thanks for the info so far, now, same question, .338 federal. I was searching through the info from federal and the writing Chuck Hawkes has done about it. Looks good ballistically and it would still be filling the brush-gun role I'd like to get my M-100 working at again. Relativley the same process, smaller hole to bore/rifle and fairly good bullet selection. Anyone done it yet in a .338-08 wildcat or the new standard federal round?
 
Same price to do it in 358 as 338-08 & cheaper to buy shells & dies.
If your going to pay the $$ for a big bore brush beater might as well go all the way to the popular 358....In My humble Opinion :)
