Can anyone give me any info or insight on reliablity, iany ssues, and overall performance of Winchester M59 semi auto shotguns from the 60's. From what I have read in a US forum, they have fiberglass wrapped barrels and the receivers were prone to cracking. Anybody with experience handling and firing these?

Thanks

I have a 59 that was my dads gun, it was only ever hunted with, never shot clays with it so it is still in very good condition.
I have never heard of Any shotgun with a cracking receiver issues? I did see one once with Win chokes, but ours is a full choke. FS

I've heard of the fiberglass cracking as well. My neighbour has one, Never been an issue with it. Very pleasant gun to carry.

Probably due to heavy loads and/or bad timing.

just had my gunsmith refinish one for me. beautiful little things, very nice to carry. Two win-chokes actually came with mine, mod and imp. cyl :D..according to my smith, that is quite rare, even to find a 59 win-lite with just one screw in choke, but with 2?...woowzers..perfect for rabbit/snowshoe hare hunting.

The only reason the receivers crack is because they are not correctly set up. There is an adjustment system in the butt stock same as the model 50. If properly adjusted the receiver will not crack.
