I know this is a hunting rifle but would it be worth making into a precision rifle, maybe add a heavy barrel, Would .270 wsm be a suitable caliber? I know the pre 64' actions were considered the best but I don't have the funds for that.

Any suggestions or ideas are welcome

Thank you!

While a pre 64 Win action has a following for certain applications, it isn't the best choice for a LR precision rifle. Not the worst choice either, and I have some very accurate Model 70's. I say do what you like with it, it will end up more accurate then most shooters if you do it right. I can't say I'm a 270 WSM fan, or any 270 for that matter, for a LR precision rig, simply because of bullet choices. But again, the rifle will do what you ask of it. If you want to use the best bullets, go with a 7mm or a 30 cal, FWIW. If you don't like recoil, a 6mm like the BR will work wonders. - dan

Jack O'Connor a famous writer and hunter opined the .270 as ideal for most hunting. It is flat shooting and easy to handle.
