Hi all,
i have this old (dates back to the 30's) Mod. 69 that I'm going to give my son in a few months.

It has the original factory scope bases, and a peep-sight. I've always wanted to put a scope on it as it is a real good shooter, and i think the time has come for me to find one. (so my son will enjoy it)

However, i don't really know what to look for. I want it to be as close as possible to the original scope. Anyone here knows what scopes came with such a rifle back in the days?

Thanks for any help,

Eric

Any 3/4” tube scope would work well, but the problem is that most 3/4” scopes are garbage these days. A refurbished weaver would look the part.

If it was made in the 30's it might be a 69A. it would be nice to see a picture of the top of the rifle . I have one and someone on Rimfire Central said they didn't machine the receiver's of the 69A rifles to accept a scope but mines machined to accept a scope. she could be a rare rifle. the later ones made in the 40's were made to accept scopes. as for the scopes back then they weren't the best optics. pick up a nice 3x9 for it . not something too cheap so the optics are decent . take it to your favourite gun store and they will set you up with some nice steel rings unless you have some and a decent scope.

I've had two 69A receivers milled for grooves to fit rimfire rings.
Some like the eye-deer of drilling and tapping for Weaver bases, but nawt me kup-oh tea.

The 69A's are wonderful rifles and shoot amazingly well.
They came in all sort of configurations with peeps, grooved, nawn grooved, etc etc.
I own three...........I think.
I am in the process of putting a set of peeps awn the latetest, thanks to a feller CGN'r with
these old Lymans he sent moi.

The other two have bin bahstersidezs, but no heed, they were bewgurr'd up anyways.
The latetitist is in great condition.

Now if only me eyes will ahdawpt dem round sights.

Oh, back to scopes................an old Leupold..............2x7-28 (33)?

I like your tastes Looky.

And don't even mention eyesight...................pizzes me off that the target peeps are not what they used to be with my eyes.

My father could shoot the peeps on my target 22 rifles better than I could up until he had the stroke at age 79. He was impressed with my collection of 22 rifles as many were those he had dreamed about owning when he was a young guy. So he got to shoot them later in life any time he wanted while I was at work. Heck he could shoot circles around me with everything but handguns......and this past year I am not doing very well in that regard either with my shoulder and elbow joints just paining the living crap out of me and making it very difficult to freehand hold a pistol.
