My sister asked me if I wanted my dad's old Winchester 69A. It had been in a corner of the closet on the farm for years. At some time it must have had a close encounter of the third kind. The stock has a chunk missing off the toe of the butt and a piece out of the buittplate as well as the bottom buttplate screw is gone. There is a little chip out of the bottom of the pistol grip. At one time there was a scope on it, but I remember Dad taking it off and one filler setscrew is missing from the scope mounting screw holes. I don't really need another .22, but I guess this has sentimental value. I imagine chances of finding another stock are about equal to finding another batch of dead sea scrolls. I am not keen on starting to carve and glue in missing pieces, but suppose it could be done. Mechanically the gun is in pretty good shape. Other than the terminations with extreme predjudice perpetrated upon woodchucks, racoons, hawks, skunks and other chicken stealin varmints, I don't think it has seen a lot of action. Anybody got any wood, or a model 69A with terminal carcinoma but decent wood?
