I agree with all the advice here. Can be very frustatrating. If you've confirmed holes all line-up and bases used are same level then maybe try another scope.

Hmm. Never had so much as a hitch on my featherweight. Never knew the bases were any different. I swapped out an old 4x rubber clad tasco with serated rings (ribbed rubber) for weaver made rings with a new 3-9x 40 mildot Bushnel elite and with a quick bore sighting and a lil adjustment all was well. Thankfully I never had to touch the bases it would seem.

Mine was a decent shooter, about what you'd expect. No issues with Weaver bases and rings, but those were mid-eighties vintage too.
