Hi, I have a Winchester M70 extreme weather in 308.
The stud on the buttstock is loose.
Are these threaded into a nut inside or just threaded into the stock?
What is the best way to fix this? I have locktite and superglue.

I also have the same issue with my Remington 870 in synthetic stock.

Thanks

Dan

I believe it’s probably just threaded in, as it’s a bell and Carlson and they are typically threaded, at least any of the ones I’ve painted in the past have been threaded. I would probably use some sort of epoxy rather than a superglue.

I would use some JB weld and thread it back in. Tape off the area of the stock around the hole just in case you have any overflow. I would not use the quick set stuff, the regular JB weld will give you more time to work with it.

If it's a wood thread, as opposed to a bolt, then run a toothpick, or two if they'll fit, into the hole and screw in the stud. It's a very old trick, and very effective. A dab of wood glue will seal the deal.

They thread in. Threads stretch and the wholes in your sling stud don’t stay at 90 degrees to your stock anymore. I like to make a little aluminum washer (think beer can) the aluminum will squish giving that quarter turn or so that you need to get it back to square and tight enough to hold it in place. No glue no mess no fuss.
