Winchester mod 88 recoil block

Hello I recently tore down my win mod 88 for a good cleaning. I have decided to refinish the stock. I have heard not to remove the recoil block unless absolutely necessary. Can anyone elaborate. I can't see it being a issue it's only one bolt threw the but stock. Thanks M.R.

As far as I know M-88's are built the same as the M-100's in that respect, and I have had many of them out for the same reason. They all went back together just fine with no issues. So I would go ahead and remove it and refinish your stock.

I believe the concern is possible stock splitting if over or loose fitting. Fagen did state that it should be glassed in
