Being new to the Model 12 and not to familiar with these shotguns I have a question for the Model 12 guys.

I have found a replacement barrel for my model 12 16ga. Is it easy to change the barrels or do I need a gun smith for this job.

Thank you

To make it fit and work properly will probably require fitting a new 'chamber ring'...

Good luck on finding someone with the tools required and the skill to do it... and it may cost more than the gun is worth...

If the replacement barrel came with a receiver extension on it, then that's about the biggest job already done for you. If not, then removing the extension from the other barrel should be done by a gunsmith with the proper jigs and tools.

The adjusting sleeve itself is simple enough, but if you are not familiar with how to set it correctly, then again you should have a gunsmith do it. The sleeve has a good range of adjustment and is set in place by a small toothed bit and a screw. Basically the sleeve is set to make the barrel a snug fit when it's twisted onto the receiver. If the sleeve is at or near it's end of settings, then a gunsmith needs to do some machine work on the barrel threads and/or the front of the receiver to extend the sleeve's settings. This is not always the case, but it does happen.

Find a gunsmith who was in business during the 1970's and 80's. He'll have done this job more than once and will have all the tools needed.

Simmons Guns in the US will be able to do it if no one here in Canada can. But I'm not sure what is involved today for shipping a shotgun to the US for repairs?
