LANDSBOROUGH AUCTION 'A dozen model 12 most had a bid price just around 200 to 260. That looks clean so 250 plus shipping and it would sell. Two million model 12s made. They have a June 3 auction watch most will sell for 220 dollars.

I'll bite. Why do you 'need' to put that fine inheritance on the EE? If I had just inherited that gun, I'd be finding a special place in the safe for it, with the idea of passing it on to the next generation. Some values transcend mere dollars.

I purchased an excellent condition 1958 Model 12 (field grade 30" full choke 12 bore) from a retail gun shop a while back for 250.00 plus tax. The gun is in like new condition and it sat for ever at the shop. As Struff said a reblue with a sling and recoil pad installed should be worth definitely a lot less. Having said that I do love the Model 12. These prices are a real advantage to guys that like the old model 12 as a working gun.

So what's happening? Does everyone today have a "hate on" for model 12's? As stated earlier, they definitely aren't worth what they were a few years ago but man, used pumps by CIL, High Standard, Savage etc bring $150.00 to $200.00 unless all beat to hell. Single shots bring $100.00-$125.00 for the typical example. You mean to say a model 12 that is regarded by many as the best pump ever made is not worth anymore than the guns mentioned. Open the choke up on a model 12 and you can have at her until the cows come home with steel or whatever. Too many people today have been lead to believe the model 12 is now a useless gun. But I guess it is if you have to have 3 1/2" and changeable chokes.

From the pictures it appears to be reblued, sling swivels and after market recoil pad affect value. . This affects value, even on a plain old field gun, as value can be the sum of it's parts. .

Open the choke a bit it could be a good shooter and still worth $275 to $300 if there's no excess bolt droop.

I should add that we haven't lost our love for Model 12's just with 2 million made they are not rare in standard field gun arrangement with a fixed full choke barrel not friendly to steel shot. A two-pin original gun or original solid rib in skeet or trap are still a sought after purchase. . Two-pin original gun in 95% plus will bring high dollars in the US, especially a pigeon grade. . If yours was in original 95% plus condition, that would be a different story, as high condition is becoming a some what rarity in itself and worth at least double or more.

Read an article recently ,titled ,"The Once Loved Now Forgotten Model 12".I guess that just about sums it up for the Model 12, for the average shooter.:)

It's not just the Model 12. The name Winchester doesn't have the same cachet that it once did. People are not falling all over themselves in the same way for Winchester guns.

The rare and antique lever actions and high-grade, sub-gauge 21s and 12s still command a premium particularly in the USA but on the Canadian used market there has been a steady decline in the value of field grade Winchester guns of all descriptions.

Field grade, full choke Model 12, poorly reblued with a sling? It isn't worth much more than any other gun of the same vintage in the same condition.

If a gun isn't collectable or usable, what is it worth?
Your generic mossberg off the shelf today is a far more versatile gun than a field grade model 12, comes in a new box and hasn't seen decades of use/abuse. And you can buy one of these for around 400.
Your new 500 can now use steel or lead, 2 3/4 or 3 inch and change the choke in a few seconds.

Let's remember that no one wants Model Ts anymore either, and prices on the old girls have crashed from a peak because their is only a small market left. Old, fixed choke 12 gauge pumos are the example of this in the gun world.
