It is from 1953. It has the infamous "Dog Leg" action bar (1953 was the only year of this bar type). Some were nasty jammers with this type of action bar. Yours has obviously survived the factory's offer to replace the dog legs with normal action bars. Funny it seems that so few of this type of action bar survive that US collectors pay a little more for them. It is of the basic field configuration. Shoot it and enjoy it they the " The Finest Repeater Ever Built"

thx guys..ya i did read about that dog leg thing before i bought it. i bought it from my buddy and its been fine as far as jams he says. was left to him through an inheritance then on to me. from your guys valuing i paid more for it..kind of knew but it fits me well, im taller than the average monkey so need the long barrel and reach.
im in the middle of tearing it down right now. give it a good cleaning then want to go blast the box of clays. then i`ll fully strip it and refinish the wood proper. and maybe possibly look int getting that piece swapped if i can. think i read it was fairly cheep to buy the part

The wood on that gun looks good to me. If you do strip it and re finish you will never get that Winchester tint back in the walnut. That is one of the features I love so much about the old model 12's is the great Winchester finish. The flat bottom fore stock is better for guys like you with long reach. I prefer the extension style because I am built like a gargoyle.
