Howdy all

I know absolutely nothing about the winchester model 12, but I just picked one up off the EE.

If you have some pictures I would love to see them.

Can I use it in CAS?

I searched the site but came up with almost nothing.

Please school me on the Mod12

Thanks

If it were still made today a model 12 field grade would sell for $2000, because it's made from so many labour intensive machined parts.

Probably is the best pump gun ever made.

The danged things are so reliable they will even fire with a BROKEN firing pin!!
Every now and then it happens , mind you .
I have broken two over the years.
The way to check is to open the gun , then holding it muzzle down, shine a flashlight into the breach and take a peek - if you can see the firing pin protruding out of the breach block, it's broken!
WGP can sell you a new one....

An interesting anology...would a Benelli Extrema be worth 8 grand seventy years from now? The going price on a new M12 was in the 60 dollar range during the 1950's. A near mint plain jane field grade M12 will run ya 200-300 bucks these days...if a buyer can be found.

Not many want old guns these days. Most want what the guys on Wild TV use.

If one has any type of mechanical background he/she should tear down an M12. Not too hard to see why the company went t!t's up.

I have 3 Model 12s at the moment, and have had many others over the years. They are an exceptionally well made shotgun, not a perfect pumpgun, but very close.I have a field gun with a 28"mod barrel with solid rib that my wife still prefers to hunt waterfowl with, though she has a number of newer guns she could use,and I still shoot clays with my Model 12 Trap.Great guns! Mur

I own several M12 trap guns as well. Shoot two rounds of trap each week spring and fall. Always funny going to a new club and walking up to the line with a M12 Trap. After shooting the stuffy "regulars" and oldtimers invite you into their group to chat.

The company that made the M12 (WINCHESTER) is doing very well and has never went t**s up. The company that did fail (USRA) never made the M12... so it's hardly fair to blame the failure of USRA on the old M12. In it's day the M12 made money for Winchester. It got phased out as labour costs went up and that profitability dropped.

I didn't say a modern made M12 would be WORTH $2000, I said that it would have to sell for $2000 to make money because of the production costs of it's intricate design. A Benelli extrema isn't a good comparison because it was designed to be mass produced while the M12 was not.

Winchester has gone t'''s up many times . One thing to check on your Model 12 is hold the trigger back and slowly close the trigger it should not fire until the bolt closes at the top of the stroke bolt if it does you need a new action release lever very hard to find and even more difficult to find someone that knows how to fit one.

It is my understanding that Winchester exists solely as a trade mark/brand name owned by Olin Corporation. Winchester ammunition is a division of Olin Corporation.

Winchester branded firearms are made by Yildiz of Turkey, Miroku of Japan and FN Manufacturing Inc of the USA. NO current production Winchester branded firearm is made by Winchester.

For the record in 1981 Winchester Repeating Arms sold it's firearms division to US repeating Arms Company which in turn was bought by GIAT in 1992 along with Browning and FN Herstal. In 1997 the government of the Walloon Region of Belgium acquired controlling interest of US Repeating Arms and Browning and FN Herstal. In 2006 US repeating Arms ceased operations.

So in essence, Winchester the company, stopped producing firearms in 1981.

Exactly. Only Winchester made Winchester Model 12 shotguns.

USRA (which is not winchester/olin corp.) did fall into financial difficulty before they were bought up by the French company - but USRA and all of the subsequent reincarnations did not make Model 12 shotguns, which was the actual point of my post.
