Hi guys ! Any thoughts on the winchester model 1200 and 1300 ? I found one which I'm not sure yet if it's a 1200 or 1300 because I don't have it physically but I just wanted to know If I did good on it for 200$ with two different length barrels included.

Thanks

fred

They were decent shotguns. Built to compete with the field grade 870, Ithaca 37 and to some extant the Mossberg 500. They have a plastic feed throat pressed into the magazine which sometimes can give trouble. ( I have never seen any broken but there is some concern over this). They work like they are supposed to. They pump very fast due to the rotary bolt locking design. Ergonomics will play the biggest influencing factor on weather you like the gun or not. Some don't like the safety in front of the trigger. Some don't like the somewhat clunky handling qualities of the gun but remember it is a hunting workhorse not a target grade specific purpose built shotgun. If equipped Winchokes are easy to find anywhere and extra barrels are available. If it is a plain barreled non win choked 1200 in 2 3/4" only 200.00 is about all it is worth. 3" chambers, winchokes and vent ribs add a little to the value. It will do the job like it should but it is up to you to decide if it is the model you want.

Thanks for the good replay ! In fact, I've looked on the net and I think it might be a Model 120 ranger, it looks very similar with the short magazine compared with the 1200 or 1300 and yes both barrels have vent ribs.

It pretty much looks like this one in my memory (because I've seen it just once physically at the shop, I don't have it in my possession yet)

I've had the exact gun in the pic, vent rib and winchokes, since I was a kid. 30 years at least and it still runs like a champ. Great guns.

Nice purchase!

Great gun for the money. Probably the fastest cycling pump out there in that group. The only thing I like about BPS's or model 37's better, is the bottom eject. Nice when your duck or goose hunting. Other than that fitting will determine if you like that shotgun or not.

I have had a model 120 and I still have a model 1300 that I bought new many years ago. They both worked flawlessly through many boxes of shells. The 1300 is still my go to goose gun. $200 is a good buy, especially with 2 barrels.

Not sure which year/model has a plastic feed throat, but I can say with 100% certainty, there are ZERO plastic parts on my Model 1300. And it is in no way the same as the newer SPX's other than designs, the new ones feel like everyday mass produced meh! Mine feels and runs like a hand fitted custom made machine.

I have a near mint ( I am the original owner ) Model 120 non vent rib. Fantastic shotgun, has never broke. Wish I had a short barrel for it.

Popped the pin and dropped the trigger group.

Once again, zero plastic. 25+ years ago, plastic wasn't as big a thing as it is today.

A few years back a company in the states marketed a steel replacement part. This offering was short lived but it is possible that your gun has been upgraded. All indications are that Winchester manufactured/offered one piece and two piece feed throats for the models 1200,1300, 1400,120 and 1500 among others all in plastic.
