The results of my Winchester Model 65 survey (sticky on this forum) have been very interesting. It got me to wondering about a few things, namely, just how many are available in Canada? Only two entries in the survey come from Canada. (If you have a Model 65 and don't have your info sent in yet, please PM me with the info. I'll be posting a more detailed chart in a few weeks on that thread).
Anyway, I was talking with a dealer who frequents gun shows here in Canada and he was telling me that because of the drop in the Canadian dollar, a lot of old Winchesters have moved south of the border in the last 6 months. I think it would be interesting to get a snapshot of what is available for certain old models. For this survey, it is the original Winchester Model 1886.
I'm just thinking of doing a one-month snapshot, so here's the instructions.
Snapshot of Winchester Model 1886's available here in Canada from April 21st to May 25th:
Instructions:
a) to avoid duplication, be sure to state the location and date you saw the 1886 for sale. Before you add to the list, check to see if someone else has already put it on the list.
b) When you add an 1886 to the list, please include the details mentioned below:
c) 'originality' means whether the gun has been reblued, or the wood refinished, or the barrel cut down, etc. If it is unmessed with, put 'original'. If it has been altered or refinished in any way, put 'not-original'.
d) DO NOT list Winchester 1886's that you own but are not available for sale .... this is supposed to be a snapshot of what is available here in Canada. Also, if you do have an 1886 for sale, sell it on the exchange, not here, but still add the details to this list.
e) to add something to the list, select 'quote' from the previous post, then remove the quote symbols in your post, add to the list, then post it.
THE LIST:
Date - Location - Amount of Blue on Barrel - originality - price - other info (caliber, rifle/carbine, special features, etc.)
(Example: April 22 - Sifton, MB gunshow - 30% - not original - $25 - 38/56, oct, half mag, 83" barrel)
