516Lettering all looks crisp around the edges, not filled in by later bluing. Looks to be original from that standpoint. Nice rifle. My 80 year old hunting partner and friend just tipped over a real nice 5x6 Whitetail out at camp this Fall with his fully original 1894 Winchester chambered in 38-55. That one has been in his family just about forever. His 6 digit ser # starts with 37###x I think. Yours should be close.
Your numbers are very close to his. His date of manufacture was 1906.. nice classic rifle
I would be wary of that one.
The finish of the metal looks to have been "wire brushed" It should be very smooth.
That isn't "pitting" from being carried. The "grain" of the wear is inconsistent with "handling" marks.
I would say "filed or brushed and reblue"
I have a really good condition pre 64 model 94 so really don’t have much interest in this one.Still a good hunter. Grey gun, wood oversanded badly. If bore is decent still got life in it. When new it was special order gun, button magazine (half), shotgun butt. Barrel should be 26 inches to bolt face. Well worth what you paid.
That isn't what the guy wants to hear...That wood looks awfully short.
You can easily make a few bucks selling it or trade it for something you do want.I have a really good condition pre 64 model 94 so really don’t have much interest in this one.
Thought the price was good so I bought it

I’m not following? It’s in the EE and no mention of the metal protruding the wood.
It was my very feeble attempt at humor! It’s in the EE and no mention of the metal protruding the wood.
