Hello all,

I am looking to purchase a Winchester model 2400 semi-auto from my neighbour. I was just curious what everyone thought of them in their experiences with one? From my understanding it is simply the Canadian version of the model 1400. I was just wondering if there was anything specifically I should look out for or be weary of. Thanks in advance.

I bought one new about 20+ years ago and it was aright, never had any problems, shot alot of duck's & grouse with it. Not a high end firearm by any means. I used it for 4-5 years. before selling it to a friend. Having given this post some thought, I'm thinking it was more like 40 years ago.Here's hoping I don't have this shotgun mixed up with another.

Glad to hear it. I would like to do a little duck hunting with it, and take it to the range here and there for a little trap shooting.

Depends what barrel is on it. If it is a mod fixed you're okay winchokes would be way better. Keep it clean and the gas ports.

Don't pay any more than $350 for it and only if it has the checkered wood butt and foreend. And a winchoke VR barrel $250 or less for a plain barrel.

I'll have to take a second look at what barrel is on there but either way, my neighbours only asking $150. It's pretty gritty though and needs a good thorough cleaning. Maybe even 2.

Meant to post this sooner but I just wasn't able to get around to it;
The barrel is a fixed full choke and the gun is chambered in 2 3/4. Some of you have mentioned you've shot duck with it, just wanted to check if anyone's had any problem shooting steel shot through the full choke?

Thanks again for all the input.

Do not shoot steel through the full choke. Get it opened up to at least modified. So you can figure the cost of having a choke opened up into the final price as well. Price to open up a choke varies from location and gunsmith.
