My girlfriends uncle gave me an old winchester 37a 20 gauge single shot last year which wasn't in the best condition and it has sat ever since. I started polishing all the metal pieces and sanded down the stock pieces and am going to try finishing it myself. Is there any bluing products that you can buy to do at home that actually turn out good. Also what is a good finish for the wood. I've hear linseed oil is good i think. Also if it doesn't turn out does anyone know of any gunsmiths around Nova Scotia who do bluing. Thanks, Trevor

If it's the one with the gold plated trigger,I think the wood is birch as opposed to walnut on the earlier models? I could be wrong though? I picked one up in 20ga years ago at a garage sale for my son for "chickens" with an IM choke and a youth stock. Found a new full sized adult stock and kept the shorter one for any prospective grand children........... Harold

I would suggest several coats of Tung oil on the wood. If you are going to try a cold blueing warm the barrel up in the oven to about 100-125 deg F then clean with rubbing alcohol (the 98 % stuff). Apply the cold blueing as per the directions not as per you think it should be.
