Winchester model 42 (Picture heavy)

Beautiful little shotgun.Whats the story on how you came across it?

A friend works for North Sylva in Toronto...pays to know people. It belonged to the owner and he just has it sitting there with a couple of model 63`s. I had to $talk$ him out of it. I had to cut the tags from it when I opened the box.:D

Wow, what a beauty. Model 42s rock. Mint condition ones are still out there. I found one a while back that had been in a clost for over 40 years. Mine is a plain barrel version, and they are a hoot to shoot.

They are the ultimate butterfly hunting shotgun.

His was made in the U.S.A., as all Winchesters were. The Browning versions were made in Japan (and they are nice too).

Hope you shoot the heck out of that 42 at the range:D It is nice to see guns with the hang ties arrive in the mail! In reference to the price of original 42's to the Japan/Win/Brownings(without engraving) the prices seem to be the same(1K-1.5K) as long as the original field grade Winchesters, but not if it have raised ribs, matted solid ribs, skeet configuration, upgraded wood etc. these go into the 4k region and up with engraving. It seems most of the original 42's spent alot of time in backs of closets ,so are in decent to great condition. At the time Win made these guns you could buy 2 to 3 Win model 12's field grades for the price of one mdel 42:eek: I hope more of these guns come out of the closet and end up at the range and hunting rabbits and grouse here in the beutifull Canadian north:)
