Winchester Model 43?

Had one in .25-20, with a Williams peep sight, bought it from Epps in 2005, and sold it a few years ago. Worked very well on gophers but I really wanted a .218 Bee. I really liked that little rifle, it was made back when quality counted, by one of the best firearms manufacturers in the world. I know the 43 is long since out of production, but if Winchester/Browning can bring back, the 1886, 1892, 1895, and 52, why can't they do a run of 43's? For how fast they go when one does occasionally pop up on the EE or elsewhere, I doubt they'd have problems moving them. Unfortunately the marketing guys think that all the public want to to buy plastic stocked super duper magnums for "X-treme" hunting.

Part of the reason I'm asking is I wonder if yours had a heavy trigger pull?

I've got my father's since he's in a care home now and I remember shooting it as a kid and not finding it bad, but now, I find the trigger impossibly stiff.

Can any improvements be made?

The trigger pull on mine was sweet. The action was smooth, and the rifle was very accurate. I wish I still had it. A buddy from Iowa nagged has it now.

I would have it cleaned and inspected first.

I have one in 22H.
Have a peep & a scope.
My young lad used to at the range to start shooting.
Nice little gun, trigger is ok but after cycling the bolt, on mine, you lift the bolt back up to the stop & the trigger works much smoother
