490

A nice rifle, I've had 2 of them both shot all the ammo I fed them, some of the older models came with exceptional walnut stocks. Extra clips used to be available at S I R in Winnipeg. FS

Winchester 490 was styled to resemble the Model 100 centrefire rifle.
Internally they have similarities with the Winchester made Cooey 64. Set up to use steel sheet metal magazines, of course.

I bought mine 2nd hand from a gun shop in Kitchener, Ontario in 1984 ,..saw the ad in the "Gun Runner paper ,..very nice trigger pull,..a well made .22,..though a little heavy .

I still own my 490, that I aquired at 15. A decade ago, mine got a REAL workout in Southern Saskatchewan. Took many many gophers, several dozen snowshoe hares and some jackrabbits, some ruffies, and even a chicken eating fox. (close up)
I literally wore out the original barrel and trigger group, because I also loaned this rifle out several times to close friends, in need of a 22 for gopher shooting excursions.
Great rifle, but it needs more frequent cleaning than a 10/22.
