A buddy of mine is looking for some photos of a win model 54 1926 edition. He thinks he has one in 30/06 but not quite sure. We need some more info to confirm. We have looked on the net but haven't seen the info we need. Any one have any links or such ?

I've heard of dealers with a few hundred firearms say "I think I have one"... :D ...If it's a Model 54 Winchester it will say so on the receiver.. :D

If it looks like a Model 70 but has a different safety and a '98 Mauser style trigger..it's probably a Model 54...but I'm no egg-spurt on the matter.

On the serious side....you'll find your answers here....

this is a 1932 30-06. in the pic it has a buehler safety, the original is very similar to a mauser 98 or springfield wing safety. the 1926 should be identical to a 1932, I think the firing system changeover was 1933-34

no model 54 or 70 is marked as such on the receiver, only on the barrel.

If the orginal Model Number was only on the barrel, could yours have been rebarrelled at some point? Maybe someone had a good ole mudplug incident back in the day? Or decided to change calibers?
