Just picked up a Winchester Model 61 S.L.LR.

Any one use one of these rifles or used them in the past.Thoughts on the rifle and what ammunition worked best in them?

I am the caretaker of a M.61 for a friend, it’s a really great .22 pump rifle. I did a full detail clean on it and was really impressed with the quality of it, it’s a little tack driver. It really liked CCI mini mags and Federal Auto match, I’m guessing it will like Federal American eagle as well. I find the Fed Auto match and American eagle to be almost the same in my bolt .22, I don’t have to adjust the scope if I switch from one to the other.

I’m hoping if he ever wants to sell it I get first crack at it, it’s his grandpas gun so sentimental value is big.

^these were 7-10 shot groups at 25y, things opened up a bit more at 50y but the CCI and federal were within a 1”-1 1/4”

It sure would be a tuff choice if a Model 61 and a 94-22 were offered up, but you got to choose only one...…………………………….:onCrack:

The pump would be my choice...…...me thinks.

That's pretty good grouping,Butcherbill. What grain and style of bullet and what velocity were you using with the CCI cartridges?

Will ask the same questions about the Federal cartridges.

Yes, hard to choose between those two. They both have their own merits.:)

rise old thread.

Anyone know much about the rifling? Sure looks shallow to my eye (microgroove?) The local range is 100y only right now. killing my 22lr fun. Blasted some off and she cycles everything
