Picked up a Winchester Model 64 (30-30) a couple of month's ago, I wish I would have taken a before picture, but did not. Stock and forearm were beat up fairly good, so I stripped them and gave her a linseed oil coating.
I never put any sand paper to her just a light 000 fine steel wool to her, and left as it were. Stripped the rifle apart and gave it a light oil.
Picked up a 66A Lyman receiver sight off this site, but was missing some parts,( Which I knew) so picked these parts on this site also. Turned out looking pretty good!
I like the balance of the rifle, this rifle show's the old time pride in making these rifles back in 1954 when this rifle was made!

but, thanks for letting me bust your chops a little.
Nothing wrong with your choice of firearm and the refinish job you have completed.
The pictures are as expected and it shows the important details you mentioned in an earlier post.

Those are clean to the 115 yr. old rifle I cleaned today.
It was on of three bought at auction yesterday.
Yours is looking to be a good one.
How long have you had and when is it going out into the field for venison?

The one I have is my main go-to rifle for hunting deer.
Nice and light and just right
30-30 is a pretty decent round.
I like the fact that it pairs nicely with the Browning copy of the Winchester model 71 that I use as my "heavy" rifle
 
Nice old rifle. Give it another rub of linseed oil every now and again. It will keep improving. I use the cast off linen roller towels we used to buy from the Perth's dry cleaning guy. I have a lifetime supply from the days when I had a farm tractor salvage yard. I put on a good dribble on the cloth then rub. Repeat until done. Your rifle will look sooooo good! :)
 
I have two M-64 Rifles . 1 st. Model ,,, "The Deer Rifle" often called the deluxe , made 1935 , in .30-30 , fair condition.
The other is the latter one in .32 SP. , made 1950 . The latter one I bought from original owner who kept it oiled
since 1950 ,,,,, great shape. I got both from fellow cottagers on my lake . Both have receiver peep sights .
They are great deer guns . ,,,,,,,,,,,, Frank
 
Is there a too much or to many coats of linseed oil that may do damage to the wood? And I don't like the high gloss look, or new look. Have I done enough?

Nice rifle. I like the 64's design with that shotgun butt plate and curved grip. Makes a great bush rifle for shouldering the gun and working the action on deer hunts when dogging.
