Snagged a rifle when a deal I couldn't say no to came along. Have to say I see the appeal of the pre 64 featherweights now. Wow.

Relatively light trim little rifle. Not sure if the stock is refinished, but even if it is, I will take it. Extremely jazzed to tune in some loads for it and take it out this fall for moose and deer.

I have several different brands of Controlled round feed Mausers. (Winchester, BRNO, Interarms Mark X, Remington 798)
The Winchester is the smoothest of the Mauser actions in my opinion, I have a model 54 in 270, built in 1927 that cycles like glass. I got that rifle as a gift.

Man, I love them all but have to agree with you! On all of the above. Usually clean and handload for a good bud's 54 in 30-06 every fall. Wow thats slick.

The only thing so far is the trigger is a bit on the heavy side. They are easily adjustable though right?

I'd love to get my hands on a pre64 to compare it against my new manufacture from South Carolina. My M70 is definitely smoother than my Brno zkk600 - but the Parker Hale 1200 Safari is a nice smooth ride as well. I've got the model 70 shooting 3/4" groups but I haven't started load development on the other two yet.

Nice rifle!
I have a pre 64 Featherweight in 270 that was in pretty rough shape when I got it, I restored it back to nice condition, glass bedded the action and tuned the trigger, it shoots well so it's a keeper. I know that restoring them can take away from the value of it but if they are far enough gone then it probably adds to the value. Mine had the stock shortened for a recoil pad so it wasn't original configuration anyway. I also have a pre 64 300 H&H that is unmolested and in really nice condition, now it would be criminal to restore that one!

Thanks all!!

I think I know why the trigger felt so heavy now. The screw that the spring and nuts rides on is actually cracked and it fell in two. Turns out the rifles been glass bedded as well.

Gonna be needing to replace that screw. Bummer.

Pre 64 model 70”s are based on the 1917 Enfield not the Mauser . The follower from a 17 engield is the same as the pre 64 70 . Here is one that very few people know the extractor from a 17 Enfield is the same as the previous 64 70 . Also the angle of the breech of the bbl is similar to the 17
. The model 54 share even more similarity’s
