I have a question concerning the Winchester Model 70, that I hope the experts on the forum can help me with.

I have a factory mid-80’s M70 stock with the 2 piece bottom metal (separate floor plate and trigger guard attached with 3 bolts). Will the currently produced one piece bottom metal from an M70 classic fit in the mid 80’s stock? Will it require any stock material inletting into the stock?

Thank you for your input.

They are definitely different inletting. I just this week took one of my older featherweights out of the stock as well as a New one to try and fit them to an older bell and carlson. Both long actions, the older model fit perfectly but the 2012 featherweight would need some inletting but nothing major, so I don’t believe you’ll have a drop in fit however it doesn’t look like it’d be major surgery. I’m going to guess the classics will be similar.
